Jaipur Rugs

Jaipur Rugs is an Indian company that combines the pursuit of profit with the spreading of kindness, with the aim of benefiting all the people sitting around its rugs; customers, artisans, local communities, employees, suppliers, buyers, and partners
Jaipur Rugs is a family business strengthened by the purpose of protecting ancestral know-how and connecting rural craftsmanship with global consumers. By placing the human aspect at its core, the company has grown to become the largest network of artisans in India. It uses the age-old art form of handmade carpets as a tool to bring prosperity into the homes of 40,000 rural artisans of which 85% are women. It works in 600 villages spread across five states in India, providing families with sustainable livelihood at their doorsteps. Every rug brings to the cities the stories of its weaver and binds the lives at the grassroots with urban consumers.
The vast network of artisans and weavers that are associated with Jaipur Rugs is an ocean of knowledge when it comes to ancient Indian philosophies. The art of carpet weaving has been passed down from generation to generation and working with these artisans as fellow designers one gets to learn about a variety of Indian traditional art forms firsthand.
The goal of Jaipur Rugs is to bridge the gap between the two ends of the spectrum. Founded in 1978 by Nand Kishore Chaudhary with just two looms, it now has over 7000 looms and sells in over 65 countries. Today, the company creates contemporary works of art by collaborating with creative talents capable of showcasing this ancestral craft with a new vision.
Knots of Compassion- Every Hand Matters
Jaipur Rugs, India’s largest handmade rug manufacturer and a pioneer in artisan carpet-making, presents three new collections at Milan Design Week. Gilded Age, created in partnership with renowned designer Peter D’Ascoli, draws inspiration from the opulence of Hollywood Regency and the timeless charm of pre-war Parisian flea markets. This striking collection consists of seven hand-knotted rugs, seamlessly intertwining Indian craftsmanship with a globally inspired aesthetic. Jardins du Monde, designed in collaboration with Tatiana de Nicolay and Invisible Collection, captures the beauty of botanical landscapes, from the enchanting Albert Kahn gardens in Paris to the vibrant blooms of English meadows. Playing with Tradition, a collaboration with Dutch designer Richard Hutten, reinterprets classic hand-knotted wool rugs with bold contemporary motifs and playful design elements, bridging centuries-old craftsmanship with modern creativity. Showcasing the global appeal of Jaipur Rugs, the presentation—unfolding across various locations in Milan—embraces a quiet elegance that emphasises luxury, innovation, and the intricate artistry of Indian rug-making.
Fueled by an insatiable curiosity, New York designer Peter D’Ascoli has spent over four decades traveling the world researching decorative arts. It was his early work with handcrafted textiles for the Indian government that ignited his enduring passion for the art and culture of India. His work, celebrated globally, is renowned for its unique fusion of technology, traditional ornamentation, and exotic cultural influences. Rooted in history and honoring the decorative arts of diverse cultures, Peter’s designs evoke a sense of familiarity and nostalgia, conjuring an heirloom quality through iconic design archetypes, attracting a sophisticated following among the world’s most discerning fashion and interior connoisseurs. Gilded Age is a homage to the Paris-based iconic collector, decorator, and antique dealer Madeleine Castaing, who had a major influence on the aesthetic development of D’Ascoli’s early career. The collection of hand-knotted rugs is a reflection of heritage, cultural diversity, and quality. The collection features classic chintz florals scaled large and small mixed with wild cat patterns, paisleys, and neoclassical motifs are all reminiscent of Hollywood Regency and the prewar Paris flea market. These handcrafted rugs are designed for 21st Century homes being centered on sources from the 19th century as seen through a filter of the 20th century.
A Paris-based Designer, Tatiana de Nicolay is a tastemaker who honed her eye first as a fashion designer and then transitioned to enter the world of interior designing. Her joyful details and imagination speak of delicate beauty inspired by masterpieces across the arts. Her collection, Jardins du Monde is an ode to the architectural legacy of Albert Kahn. Taking inspiration from the Albert Kahn’s Garden in Paris, where she imagines the beauty of seven gardens around the world, creating seven landscapes before translating them into carpet designs.
Rotterdam based Richard Hutten is well known for his conceptual, sustainable and playful designs. As a true innovator, he has established himself as one of the leading international figures in the field, continuously pushing the boundaries of design. As a founding member of the famous Droog design movement, back in 1993, he has put his mark on the design field ever since.
The Playing with Tradition collection draws inspiration from the rich history of hand-knotted rugs and the fascinating designs that have evolved over centuries. I began by selecting patterns that are hundreds of years old and reimagined them with a modern twist. This involved introducing elements such as 3D textures, blending traditional motifs, or playfully layering confetti-like designs. The colors of the confetti draw from the vibrant hues of India’s Holi festival, adding a lively and celebratory dimension. For a touch of humor, I incorporated bananas—an homage to the slapstick comedy of silent film legends Laurel and Hardy and Charlie Chaplin, where slipping on a banana peel became an iconic gag.
Featuring the most opulent hand-knotted rugs, notable designer collections, and our award-winning Manchaha rugs, a direct artisan to customer connection is what we have always strived to cultivate through our brand–right from its inception. Even in Milan, the core of our philosophy remains the same. Here’s a look at our flagship store, right in the heart of the design-savvy Milan.
