Library of Light, a luminous rotating sculpture designed by the British artist and designer Es Devlin for the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2025, occupies the middle of the seventeenth-century Cortile d'Onore, which connects the Pinacoteca di Brera, the Braidense National Library and the Academy of Fine Arts.
The kinetic installation, consisting of illuminated shelves containing over 3,200 books, was inaugurated on 7th April and will remain open until May 5th, hosting a series of meetings that will interweave art, literature, craftsmanship and reflections on our time through the voices of artists, writers, curators and innovators.
The opening evening was attended by more than 500 guests, with contributions from Maria Porro, President of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, and Es Devlin. To mark the occasion, the audience was treated to an extraordinary musical performance featuring a violin solo with phrases from the writings of Maria Gaetana Agnesi spoken by the British artist, and readings by the British actor Benedict Cumberbatch from The Order of Time by the theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli.
