The new padded furnishings stand out with their innovative materials and elegant, modular forms, enabling them to adapt to a variety of outdoor settings, from the terrace to the garden

Durability, design elegance, modularity, versatility, comfort and innovative materials. By their presence, outdoor sofas lend character to grace gardens, terraces and relaxation areas by the pool. The qualities of comfort and softness typical of indoor sofas reappear in these outdoor settings, largely due to the continuous research conducted by companies into the upholstery and finishes. These increasingly ensure greater durability, with a view to sustainability, withstanding bad weather in winter and the sunlight during the summer. The modularity of the designs enables the new outdoor sofas to create unique compositions, adaptable to every aesthetic and spatial requirement. Here we present a selection of outdoor sofas featured at the Salone del Mobile 2024.

Designer Matteo Nunziati designed Davos for Unopiù: a seating system with modular elements characterized by quality padding and fabrics that offer the comfort levels typical of indoor furniture even in outdoor spaces.

Living Divani, with the signature of Piero Lissoni, presented the outdoor version of Ile Club, a padded furnishing that has been innovated to adapt to outdoor spaces, while maintaining the precision and clean design lines that distinguish this model originally designed in 2007.

Dorvan from Désirée is a sofa with soft and generous lines designed by Matteo Thun & Antonio Rodriguez. It is highly suitable for covered or semi-covered outdoor settings. The structure is made of galvanized and powder-coated tubular steel, with padding and backrest cushion in eco-down with a water-repellent polyester cover. The upholstery, completely removable, is available in a plain or two-tone fabric.

Equipped with a side table, Graphic Sofa, designed by Mario Ferrarini for Potocco, is a modular furnishing that lends itself to indoor and outdoor settings. The design, with its broad seats, is restrained and interpreted by materials such as water-resistant ash wood, metal, natural stone or porcelain stoneware. A real invitation to relax.

MAXIMO by Nardi is a modular sofa that makes sustainability and modularity its hallmark. It has a regenerated resin structure and fabrics with a high recycled component. The design by Raffaello Galiotto stands out by its large volumes combined with a deep and comfortable seat.

Flap is a modular sofa designed by Meneghello Paolelli for S-CAB. It consists of four modules, which can be arranged to create numerous compositions. As the name suggests, the elements are attached to the minimalist structure in the part of the backrest that resembles the shape of aircraft flaps that support the cushions of the back.

Soft lines, comfort and elegance are outstanding features of the Milos sofa designed by Jean-Marie Massaud for Vondom. It is made of iroko wood, polyurethane, polyethylene, and cement. The designer explains: “My aim was to bring Vondom a non-Cartesian planning in a sofa that can be combined organically, like living on a coral reef.”

Part of the Shapes Outdoor collection, Pedro by Cprn Homood is a modular sofa featuring a frame made from glossy varnished solid Mahogany wood. The cushions of the seat and back are removable for easy maintenance.

Rodolfo Dordoni designed the Philia sofa system for RODA: generous forms and sizes result in different arrangements. The project is notable for its base of teak slats, and thanks to its generous forms and dimensions it allows for multiple layouts. Lightly padded and fitted with additional cushions, the backs and armrests can be reclined in three different positions.

Openly inspired by the island universe, ATOLO by Claudio Bellini for DEDON is a sofa that recalls natural forms: the gently sloping back and armrests interpret the weightless freedom of floating from one island to another. Bellini declares: “Thanks to the extraordinary combination of DEDON fibers and the expertise of DEDON’s master weavers, we have achieved an excellent harmony of features and details.”
