Besteheider

Philippe Bestenheider was born in 1971 in Sion, Switzerland. After graduating in architecture, getting a Master in industrial design and important international experiences, he opens his own studio working between Switzerland and Milan. In 2010 he is awarded with the Italian Innovation Award for his Nanook chair. His projects are characterized by a rational but still sensual approach to the contemporary, mixing tradition and experimentation, between a computer-aided design and the workshop of a craftsman.

Edelweiss
Product description
The Edelweiss collection of chairs, stools and lounge chairs is the result of Philippe Bestenheider’s desire to come to terms with wood. The seats, in thin plywood, combine the comfort of an ample surface with the formal and constructive elegance of Swiss design. The arched form of the large back has been gauged to permit interlocking with the seat, in a game of balancing of forces of pressure and tension that simulates a micro-work of architecture, while referencing the chairs of the Alpine tradition. The chair is available in two versions, with full or perforated backs; it is even lighter in the version with holes, graphic signs that maximize the experimentation with reduction of material, giving rise to an agile seat that is ideal for contract projects.

In the Fleuron chair and lounge chair by Constance Guisset the rationality of the design, based on the idea of a buttress that reinforces a wall, meets the softness of a curved line.
