A contemporary crafted design and social impact by MAYICE for GANDIABLASCO
When light is as important as shadows
The Aria lighting collection is a design by the Mayice studio that starts from the same artisan manufacturing technique used in the Aram collection. A way of doing developed by artisans in rural India that promotes their economic development.
While for Aram, Nendo developed a collection of stools and low tables with it, with Aria, Mayice has reinterpreted its language and technique by transferring it to the world of lighting. The idea was that, with its single-material design, the Aria luminaires could not only dialogue with the elements of Aram but also with the rest of the GANDIABLASCO collections.
“This traditional and artisan technique, originally from India, consists of building volumes with a very organic character from metal structures on which steel wire is woven. It is something similar to basketry, but using wire, in this case stainless steel. The technique itself is what generates the aesthetics, the final finish and its pure form. With it, we have sought to create a skin that envelops the light and filters it, modifying its usual parameters so that it can function as a homogeneous diffuser ,” explain from the Mayice studio.
