East Side, angelettiruzza design

A series inspired by the atmosphere of a 1970s New York loft.

quote
“ East Side series designed for CRISTINA Rubinetterie, is based on the American loft culture in New York. The words to create the series we got inspiration from are: humility, frankness, honesty. We decided to introduce the knurling to improve the grip and experience of touch and also the desire to create a contrast feeding the physical experience of the perception of the object.”

A line that since its name recalls the industrial atmospheres and the mix of culture and lifestyles that from the lofts of New York in the 70s, thanks to the contamination of multidisciplinary artists and creatives, have then spread all over the world. A collection where the finishes, both chromatic and materic, are an integral part of the project itself. The knurling, in particular, turns out to be not only a functional choice but also a deliberate expression of a material contrast, tactile even before visual, which allows the hand a physical experience, direct, almost "raw" in its essentiality. An experience that the designers have drawn from the world of mechanical tools, enhancing the industrial characteristics of the products with finishes ranging from brushed black chrome to brushed metallic, from gold brass to matt black to an antique brass finish that further enriches the possibility of even more personal choices.

Silvana Angeletti and Daniele Ruzza design essential objects, timeless pieces that relate to environments and people. Industrial designers since 1994 when Guzzini put their Zazà coffee maker into production, their iconic early design is still on the catalogue today.

They have collaborated with numerous Italian industrial companies across furniture, lighting, home accessories, household appliances and bathroom furniture, pushing cross-pollination and experimentation across different areas, always within a dialogue with their project partners. The aesthetics of their products comes from a synthesis between function, attention to detail and technical production know-how. This concrete approach to design formed the basis of their Industrial Design courses at the University of Ascoli Piceno (from 2012 to 2014) and at the IED in Rome (from 2010 to 2018). Angeletti and Ruzza have been artistic directors of multiple companies during their careers including BOTTEGA INTRECCIO, KALON and GLOBO. They have been able to push companies outside of their "comfort zone" through a clear understanding of brand identity and production know-how. Promoting innovative products categories and new research ideas around materials, techniques and the everyday requirements of life has become their trademark. A selection of their design products are part of the permanent collection at the Chicago Athenaeum Museum and many others have been awarded leading international design awards recognising product innovation and adaptability across disciplines including graphics and installations.
